How to Make Perfectly Crisp Tofu in 4 Easy Steps

For too long I put up with poorly cooked tofu. For too long I suffered through a plate of old sponge or frog spawn (depending on how under or over cooked my tofu was that day). The Power of Essential Oils

The Power of Essential Oils

Aromatherapy (also known as essential oil therapy) is a holistic healing treatment that uses natural plant extracts to promote health and well-being. Using aromatic essential oils, aromatherapy can be used to improve the health of the body, mind and even spirit. The practice of using plants and herbs medicinally dates back to prehistoric times where, evidence shows, Juniper berries were used for their antiseptic properties. Our Top Picks of Health and Lifestyle Podcasts to listen to this Weekend

Our Top Picks of Health and Lifestyle Podcasts to listen to this Weekend

We recently discovered that podcasts are called podcasts because they were originally made to be listened to on ipods (remember those). These days you can get podcasts on loads of different platforms and there’s something for everyone. Podcasts are super handy for when you’re on the go but we consider this list we’ve put together for you to be ideal easy listening while you’re chilling out on the weekend. So grab your airpods (other brands of earphones are also available) and spend an hour of your day being educated but also entertained.

  • The High Low: Debunking Wellness Myths with Is Butter a Carb? Authors, Rosie Saunt & Helen West
  • One of our all time favorite podcasts hosted by journalists Pandora Sykes and Dolly Alderton this show is a self defined ‘weekly pop-culture and news podcast’. Often featuring author specials, the most recent episode of The High Low welcomed authors Rosie Saunt and Helen West who co-wrote Is Butter a Carb? If you haven't read it add it to your wish list on Waterstones NOW. It’s hilarious an informative and the authors bring the same feel to this episode of the podcast. Over the course of an hour superfood myths are debunked, beware fans of celery juice and turmeric lattes you may not like what you hear. Seriously worth a listen if you’re interested in all things food! Also worth a read is Dolly’s book ‘Everything I know about Love’ and pretty much every article they’ve both written, be it for the Guardian, Elle or one of the other dozen or so publications they freelance for!

    1. Deliciously Ella: How Our Food Affects Our Mood

You probably follow her on Instagram and you’re almost definitely a fan of her nut butter balls (grab them in store). We love all episodes of this podcasts, they talk about everything from sustainable fashion to period power. In this episode Ella talks to author and  expert in Nutritional Psychology about foods which boost your mood and whether our diets could be connected to the rise of depression and anxiety including a super interesting section about the consumption of sugar, caffeine and alcohol. Possibly not one to listen to while tucking into your Saturday night glass of wine.

    1. Talking Tastebuds: Laura Thomas: How to Get Your Life Back With Intuitive Eating

A weekly interview podcast hosted by Venetia Falconer, each week welcomes a different guest to discuss their life with food. Every episode starts with the question ‘What did you eat for breakfast’, promptly replied to with answers that never fail to make us feel guilty about our measly porridge. This episode registered Nutritionist Laura Thomas discusses the benefits of intuitive eating. If this way of eating isn’t on your radar definitely give this episode a listen, it might just change your entire mindset! Another great episode features Livia Firth (Colin Firth’s wife) discussing whether or not sustainable fashion is for the privileged only.

    1. Outrage and Optimism: Striking for the Climate with Greta Thunberg

A slightly different theme to the other podcasts we have mentioned here but probably the most important discussion. This podcast may not be what you call easy weekend listening but it’s sure to spur you into action and inspire change! You’ve probably heard all about Greta Thunberg, the girl behind the Striking for Climate movement which has inspired action from school children around the world. This discussion explores her motivations to start and what keeps her going even when shes out there striking alone. Super insightful and great to get you set up for a productive week ahead.

    Have a great weekend!
